The Thermo Scientific 264704 Microplate (often branded under the Nunc product line) is a specialized high-throughput vessel designed to miniaturize assays and conserve expensive reagents. It features a 384-well format constructed from clear polystyrene, offering excellent optical transmission for colorimetric and absorbance-based readings.

Shallow Well Design: The defining feature of this plate is its well geometry. While the exterior of the plate maintains the standard height (14.4 mm) required for compatibility with robotic grippers and stackers, the internal wells are much shallower than a standard 384-well plate. This reduces the total well volume (typically to ~25 µl) and minimizes the dead volume, allowing researchers to work with very small sample sizes (working volume 2–20 µl).
Non-Treated Surface: The polystyrene surface is non-treated, making it hydrophobic. This is ideal for solution-based assays, compound storage, or applications where cell attachment is not required or desired.
Flat Bottom: The wells have a flat bottom to ensure efficient light transmission and easy microscopic visualization.
Automation Compatible: By keeping the standard exterior dimensions (ANSI/SLAS footprint), this plate can be used in standard automated plate readers and liquid handlers without requiring special adapters, unlike "low profile" plates.
