The Scientific Industries (Model SI-4000) Multi-MicroPlate Genie® is a heavy-duty benchtop mixer designed to deliver aggressive, uniform mixing across multiple microplates simultaneously. Unlike standard orbital shakers that gently swirl liquids, this unit utilizes a very small 1.0 mm orbit combined with variable speeds ranging from 500 to 3000 RPM. This specific mechanical action allows it to achieve a true vortexing effect within each individual well of a 96-well or 384-well plate, making it uniquely capable of resuspending stubborn pellets, dissolving solid reagents, or mixing viscous samples that standard shakers cannot move.

Physically, the unit features a standard platform that securely holds up to four standard footprint microplates (or deep-well blocks) using spring-loaded retaining bands to keep them stable at high velocities. It operates with a digital timer for precise reproducibility or a continuous run mode for long-term incubations. Because of its "Genie" motor lineage, it is significantly more powerful than magnetic shakers, ensuring consistent performance even when fully loaded with heavy deep-well blocks.
