Quantum Northwest Temperature Controller

The Quantum Northwest TC 125 is a high-precision temperature controller designed specifically to drive Peltier-based cuvette holders for spectroscopy applications. Unlike traditional water bath systems, this electronic controller manages heating and cooling directly through thermoelectric modules, allowing for rapid temperature transitions and exceptional stability without the maintenance of circulating fluids. It is capable of regulating temperatures across a broad range—typically from -30°C to +105°C, depending on the attached sample holder—making it an essential tool for demanding experiments such as DNA melting curves, enzyme kinetics, and protein denaturation studies.

Beyond simple temperature regulation, the TC 125 acts as a central hub for experimental conditions. It features integrated controls for variable-speed magnetic stirring, ensuring uniform mixing and temperature distribution within the sample cuvette. The unit is also equipped with an input for an external thermistor probe, allowing researchers to monitor the actual temperature of the liquid sample independent of the block temperature. While it offers front-panel controls for manual operation, the controller is frequently used in conjunction with computer software (via RS-232 or USB) to execute automated temperature ramps and complex thermal protocols.
