Corning Laboratory Magnetic Stirrer Analog 5 x 7 inch Ceramic Plate
The Corning (Model PC-410) Analog Magnetic Stirrer is a durable, heavy-duty mixing unit designed specifically for laboratory applications where heating is not required. Unlike the PC-420 (which includes a heating element), the PC-410 is a dedicated stirrer-only device. It is recognizable by its signature Pyroceram® glass-ceramic top plate, which is a material that provides a rock-hard, non-porous surface that is highly resistant to scratches and chemical corrosion, while offering a bright white background that aids in visualizing color changes during titrations.
Functionally, the unit relies on a simple, robust analog interface. A single rotary knob controls the motor speed, typically offering a range from 60 to 1,100 RPM. The internal motor is paired with a powerful magnet designed to maintain strong coupling with the stir bar, even when mixing viscous fluids or using large vessels (up to approximately 10 Liters). The unit is housed in a heavy die-cast aluminum base, which provides the weight necessary to keep the stirrer stable and prevent "walking" across the benchtop during high-speed operation. Because it generates minimal heat and lacks a heating element, it is frequently used in cold rooms (4°C) or incubators for long-term solution preparation.
Used; excellent condition.
