Corning Erlenmeyer Flask 1000 ml Polycarbonate Case of 25 Flasks
The Corning 431146 Erlenmeyer Flask is a 1 Liter culture vessel designed for general liquid handling, storage, and specific cell culture applications where a vented closure is not required. Precision-molded from virgin polycarbonate (PC), this flask offers the high optical clarity of glass combined with the shatterproof durability of plastic. This makes it an excellent choice for safety-conscious laboratories, as it eliminates the risk of broken glass during shaker incidents or transport.
Unlike the baffled, vented flasks previously discussed, this specific model features a Flat Bottom (non-baffled) and a Flat (Solid) Cap. The flat bottom design provides a smooth surface that promotes gentle, laminar flow during rotation, which is often preferred for shear-sensitive cell lines or when using the flask simply for media storage.
The Flat Cap is solid polypropylene (without a filter membrane), designed to create a liquid-tight seal. This makes the flask ideal for the storage of prepared media and buffers, or for the cultivation of anaerobic bacteria where gas exchange must be restricted. If aerobic gas exchange is required, the cap typically features a "plug seal" design that can be backed off (loosened) slightly to allow airflow, though this is less secure than using a dedicated vented cap.
The flasks are supplied sterile (gamma irradiated) and individually wrapped to ensure immediate aseptic use. They feature molded-in graduations for approximate volume verification and are compatible with standard orbital shaker clamps.
