At the heart of its performance is a 0.2 µm Polyethersulfone (PES) membrane, which is widely regarded as the industry standard for cell culture applications. PES is preferred because it offers the lowest protein binding and fastest flow rates of common membrane types, ensuring that critical growth factors and proteins in your media are not lost during the filtration process. The 0.2 µm pore size is the standard "sterilizing grade" rating, effectively removing bacteria and fungi to ensure the safety of your downstream cultures.

A defining feature of this unit is Nalgene's proprietary Rapid-Flow support plate design. Unlike traditional filter units that often use a radial spoke support (which can block up to 50% of the effective membrane surface), the Rapid-Flow system utilizes a unique multi-column support structure.
