It serves as the primary data link between the system's main computer (running UNICORN software) and individual hardware modules like pumps, monitors, and fraction collectors. In the ÄKTAdesign ecosystem, UniNet cables are used in a "daisy-chain" configuration. This means each module connects to the next in a sequence, allowing the UNICORN software to address and control multiple components through a single interface port. This includes high-quality electromagnetic shielding to prevent data interference from nearby high-voltage laboratory equipment. The cable jacket is designed to resist minor splashes of common HPLC solvents and buffers.
