The Thermo Scientific™ Nunc™ UpCell™ 174900 is a highly specialized, cutting-edge cell culture plate engineered to enable the non-enzymatic harvesting of adherent cell populations. Utilizing a proprietary temperature-responsive polymer surface matrix, this 12-well multidish shifts from hydrophilic to hydrophobic states based entirely on thermal conditions, allowing intact cells and delicate extracellular matrix structures to detach naturally. Supplied as a sterile package of 6 plates per case, each flat-bottom well features a 2.0 mL working volume capacity, completely eliminating the need for trypsinization or harsh mechanical scraping to maximize cell viability and preserve critical cell surface proteins.

Technical Performance & Design

  • Temperature-Responsive Polymer Matrix:** Chemically grafted with a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) polymer layer. At standard incubator conditions (37C), the surface is hydrophobic, promoting robust cell attachment and proliferation. When shifted below (32C} (room temperature), the surface instantly transitions to hydrophilic, binding water molecules to gently release adherent cells.
  • Enzyme-Free Intact Cell Release:** Eliminates the use of trypsin, dispase, or collagenase digests. Because the cell-to-surface bonds are released thermally rather than enzymatically, fragile cell surface receptors, antigen markers, and membrane proteins remain completely undamaged.
  • Continuous Cell Sheet Harvesting:** Retains endogenous cell-to-cell junctions and deposit matrices intact during release. This enables the harvesting of continuous, uniform single-layer "cell sheets" utilizing the included specialized supportive membrane membranes for tissue engineering pipelines.
