The most important feature of this funnel is the fritted disc, which is a porous glass filter permanently fused into the base of the funnel. This eliminates the need for separate filter paper, which can be a source of contamination or react with harsh chemicals. It is ideal for retaining larger, crystalline, or gelatinous precipitates, but it will not effectively filter very fine particles.
